Here are some traditional, conventional and new ways to find some of those typing jobs you can do from home. I've used all of these ways to find work and new clients and have talked to others who have used them too. And these are the ways that work! You have to be persistent and be a little patient and at times be a little creative. But these are the tried and true ways to really find typing work that you can do from home!

  • Look in your local newspaper. I know everyone runs to their computer and looks on the Internet but there are companies out there who still advertise the old fashioned way - classified ads in the newspaper. Look under Office Jobs, Part Time Jobs and Miscellaneous Jobs. Some smaller companies may not make a distinction. They just need someone to type some letters and do some data entry but they don't want to hire someone full time.

  • Make up some business cards. They don't cost much and they're easy to do. Put your name, phone number and email address on the cards along with a couple of things you type, for example, business letters, manuscripts, mailing labels and envelopes.

  • Make up flyers and post them at local colleges and business schools. If you do this when school is just starting and refresh your flyers around mid-terms, you could get a lot of students who need term papers typed. That's a great way to get fast typing jobs to do at home!

  • Let everyone know you're looking for work to do at home. Do you have a MySpace account? Post a bulletin for everyone in your network to see. Are you active in different forums? Do you have a standard signature file? Add a blurb to your signature file that you do typing jobs at home for small businesses and individuals.

  • Check the Internet but stay away from the scams! Do Not Pay for a Job. Don't pay for any job lists or pay to join some site that promises a fresh job list. Do not ever send any money to anyone for a job. If they're running an ad that says "One time start up fee of..." forget it. Legitimate employers and legitimate small business owners will never ask you to pay to work with them. Even temporary agencies won't make you pay anything to see what jobs are available. This is just another scheme for someone else to make money off of you.

Those a just a few ways to find some typing jobs to do from home without getting hooked up in a get rich quick scam. And if you want to get into more advanced typing opportunities, visit The General Transcription Business Guide for information on making transcription your new career!
